Gafar Gurbanov is an Azerbaijani businessman and a former official at the Azerbaijan tax ministry.[537] [521] He is the director of the Triangle Group,[538] a London-based real estate investor and family office manager.[539] Between 2006 and 2011, Gurbanov served as the chairman of AtaHolding,[540] a financial conglomerate linked to Leyla and Arzu Aliyeva.[536]
Gurbanov is part of a network of businessmen who have managed offshore companies that bought and sold property on behalf of Azerbaijan’s first family.[521] [536] In 2012, he was a director of Ciaba Ltd, a British Virgin Islands company owned by Arzu Aliyeva that acquired a $7.3 million property in Bucharest, Romania.[536] [541] [542]
