Ali and Nino Pictures Limited is a company registered in the UK.[704] It was involved in the production of “Ali and Nino,”[234] a 2016 feature film for which Leyla Aliyeva was executive producer.[568] [569] Kris Thykier, a Danish citizen, was the film’s producer,[580] [569] as well as the company’s sole director.[704] [580] [1203] [152] On incorporation, the sole shareholder of the company was Javad Marandi,[152] a British-Iranian businessman and associate of Leyla Aliyeva.[234] [577] He controlled the company until January 2017,[1269] when Thykier took over as owner.[234]
In February 2016, Azerbaijani company Inshaat Services LLC lent funds to Ali and Nino Pictures Limited to produce the film.[691] In exchange, Inshaat Services acquired the rights to the film and to its anticipated future film tax credit.[235] [237] As part of the loan, a charge was registered against the company, shown in favor of Inshaat Services.[235] The charge document does not specify the loan amount,[235] and as of 2023, the charge against the company is outstanding,[691] indicating that the loan has yet to be repaid. According to the charge document, Ali and Nino Pictures held accounts at Coutts,[235] a London-based private bank.[628] The company reported a turnover during 2015 of 15 million GBP ($22.1 million).[466] [234]
